Within the context of the broad parameters of this multi-faceted crisis there is an urgent need to forge a new political culture based on a progressive policy agenda that contains the innovative and practical solutions necessary to build a sustainable, socially cohesive and prosperous Zimbabwe once a new democratic dispensation has been established.
It is on the basis of the need to shape and develop the progressive policy
agenda, and to build consensus around social democratic principles, that the
Zimbabwe Institute has been established.
The ZI was formally launched at a press conference in Johannesburg on Thursday 26 February 2004.

Zimbabwe's political and civic leaders met at the Building Consensus Conference as part of the search for solutions to the Zimbabwe crisis.

The labour market and sustainable growth and transformation in Zimbabwe | ||||
| Traditional approaches to development, such as the Structural Adjustment Programmes (SAPs) have largely seen the labour market as a factor market, whose fortunes are intricately linked to those of the commodity markets and hence the notion of the derived demand for labour. However, lessons from experience suggest that the link between growth, employment and poverty reduction may not exist in the marketplace and is therefore not automatic. | |||||
