Zimbabwe Institute, in partnership with Parliament of Zimbabwe, through the Youth Parliamentary Caucus and the Zimbabwe Youth Council launched the first ever Youth Model Parliament on 28 to 29 March at the new Parliament in Mount Hampden, Harare. This event brought together two hundred and seventy, (270), young people from the across the ten provinces of Zimbabwe. For most of the young poeple, this was the first time that they were coming to Parliament to experience life in the shoes of a member of Parliament, where they debated with members of the Youth Caucus, who took on the role of Government Ministers. On the first day, the young people received training on Parliamentary procedures and were equipped with knowledge on how to raise motions on pertinent issues affecting them. On day 2, the young participants assembled in Parliament and debated raising motions which they had prepared the previous day. The motions raised were around: 1) Youth unemployment and its relatedness to drug and alcohol abuse, 2) Youth access to technology and the need for digitalisation, 3) Youth inclusion/youth quota in local government.
